Getting
dogs to use dog beds can be effortless or quite a chore. Determined by when
you start teaching dogs to use dog beds you could find it to be an easy thing
to do or one that will have you considering sleeping in a dog bed yourself.
Most dog owners get dog beds the moment they bring home a dog. If you start teaching your dog to sleep on a dog bed from their initial night at home you should realize that it's a great deal simpler than training a dog that was sleeping in a different place. A brand new dog needs to be shown to his bed at the end of the day. You could call the dog over to the bed and encourage him to lay down. If they get off the bed to go to slumber elsewhere bring them back to the bed. You might have to continue to do this until they fall asleep. Normally they will get into the routine of slumbering on dog beds after a few nights. How to Get Dogs off of Your Bed and on Dog Beds Dogs familiar with sleeping in people beds might be more tricky to teach to snooze in dog beds. They’ve been trained that it’s okay to sleep in a human bed and might not grasp why suddenly they are supposed to be slumbering on another bed. You have to be careful how you train dogs to snooze on dog beds. If the reason that you want the dog to slumber on a dog bed is that you are no longer single, you want to be sure that the dog doesn't begin to resent the other person. You should make dog beds look like a treat and not a punishment. You could start by giving the dog a treat anytime they lie on the dog bed. Even if it’s not to sleep, anytime the dog goes onto the dog bed you ought to reward him or her with a cookie and positive words. Slowly you need to begin getting the dog to slumber on the dog bed. Dog beds can be located by your bed so they feel close to you. You can move the dog beds later if you do not want them right next to your bed for any reason. Encourage the dog to lay on the dog bed and reward him with a dog treat. Pet them and rub their bellies or whatever else they enjoy. They’ll begin to equate the dog bed with treats. You will have to be strong whenever the dog wants to get off the dog bed and onto your bed. If they leave the dog bed and go to your bed tell them “No” in a harsh tone and point them back to their bed. Do not give them a dog snack but give them positive words of encouragement. If you give them a cookie when they get off your bed and go on the other bed they could associate your bed with the treat. It may take a couple nights or even a couple weeks before your dog is trained to sleep on dog beds. Once they get used to dog beds you must never persuade them to get back onto your bed or you can puzzle your dog. Go ahead and purchase dog beds comfortable and big enough for your dogs and start to coach them how to sleep on their bed. |
